PRESIDENT'S CORNER: Message from the President
Welcome to the CLL Global Research Foundation web site. Our goal is to eliminate chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) as a threat to life by funding outstanding research aimed at eradicating this disease. CLL Global was established in 2004 thanks to generous donations from patients and their families who are affected by CLL. Our web site provides a way to disseminate the most up-to-date information regarding the status of our understanding of CLL and the initiatives designed to control and eventually eradicate this disease.
There is a lot of good news for CLL patients. Treatments are dramatically better than previous years and are safe and well tolerated by the vast majority of patients. The better news is that there is realistic optimism that a greater understanding of the disease and greater availability of targeted treatments will soon lead to eradication of CLL. This could not have been said ten years ago or even when CLL Global was established. This expansion of knowledge is providing a better understanding as to which patients need treatment; further, it is providing a better understanding as to which treatment is most effective for each individual patient.
I am sure you will find the CLL Global web site informative, accurate and interesting. Visit often. We will update the information as needed to keep you educated. You are the reason the CLL Global Research Foundation was started and the reason why we have the web site.
