Emili Montserrat is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Institute of
Hematology and Oncology at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, one of the leading
institutions in hemato-oncological research in Europe. His main areas of interest
are chronic lymphoproliferative disorders and lymphoma. He is one of the founding
members of the International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (IWCLL)
and the European Research Initiative for CLL (ERIC) of which he is the current
president. He is also a WHO (World Health Organization) expert for lymphomas.
He has contributed more than 500 articles and 50 book chapters on hemato-oncology.
Emili Montserrat and his group have produced seminal contributions to the study
of leukemias and lymphomas. He has been President of the European Hematology Association
and is also a Member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Barcelona (2004) and
Honorary Member of The Royal College of Pathologists (Londres, 2005). He has received
many national and international awards, among them the Premio Fundación
Lilly para la Investigación en Biomedicina (Medicina Clínica) and
the Emiran Eldor Lecture (University of Tel Aviv, 2003). Recently he has received
the National Award in Oncology (Fundación Echevarne, 2007) and the Life
Time Achievement Award from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO, 2008).
