University of Torino, Medical School (Italy) |
Silvia Deaglio obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Turin, Italy.
After board certifying as a medical oncologist in 2002, she completed a Ph.D.
program on Human Genetics. Since January 2005, she has been Assistant Professor
of Medical Genetics at the University of Turin, Italy. Her clinical and scientific
education involved several training periods in the USA, including one semester
at The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Between 2004 and 2005, she was
visiting Assistant Professor at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard
Medical School in Boston, MA.
Her interest in chronic lymphocytic leukemia concerns, primarily, the understanding
of the pathogenetic role played by the microenvironment and by its molecular connections.
With CLL Global support, Dr. Deaglio has analyzed, in depth, the role of CD38 and
ZAP-70 in controlling growth, survival and migration of leukemic cells. Her studies
are now focused on how pharmacological manipulation of the tumor microenvironment
may lead to therapeutic improvements.
